Who is this woman and why should you care? Former Missouri State Treasurer Sarah Steelman is strongly believed to be prepping for a run for the seat that Senator Kit Bond is vacating in 2010. She’s a former Economics professor at Lincoln University, an historically black college, and is considered a fairly down-the-line conservative. As treasurer, she was the first in the nation to support the Terror-Free Fund, divesting money from state sponsors of terrorism like Iran and Syria. She narrowly lost the primary for the nomination for governor last year after stepping down as state treasurer. If she runs for Senate, her main competition in the primary will be Representative Roy Blunt.
